This Week I Learned – August 11 through 17, 2019
  • I learned about the importance of transfer (learning something in one context and being able to use it in another) and recall (being able to remember something without having to look it up) from Ultralearning.
  • I learned the song “Death Was Arrested” was inspired by a tombstone inscription.
  • I learned I’ve not been measuring enough coffee in my french press and have been leaving it to brew too long.
  • I learned the importance of quizzing yourself and taking notes as questions (such as, “What’s a good ratio of water to coffee when making in a french press?” rather than “Use a 1:3 ratio – 3 tablespoons of coffee to 1 cup of water.”)
  • I learned about creating some interesting synth sounds from Creating Sounds for Electronic Music.
  • The old Blackman High School field, which is just behind their new one, is kinda eerie looking.
  • Turner learned about the powers of 10.
  • Traci learned you can turn your phone sideways when using the Calculator app to get scientific functions to check powers of 10 homework.
  • Cold washcloths in the ice cooler would be a good idea to pack for the boys (and for us) on hot days at the ball field.
