The 5 Types of Wealth is quite an accomplishment. Bloom combines some of the most popular ideas, studies, and principles of the past 100 years into one volume. The bibliography section alone is probably worth the price.
I can see it showing up in lists like “Most Practical Books for Graduates” or something.
So, What Are The 5 Types of Wealth?
Bloom focuses on the five core types of wealth in our lives:
- Time Wealth – The ability to choose how you spend your time.
- Social Wealth – Having meaningful connections with others.
- Mental Wealth – Having purpose, meaning, and values to guide your motivation and decision making.
- Physical Wealth – Health, fitness, nutrition, and recovery.
- Financial Wealth – Dolla dolla bills, y’all!
Bloom creates a strong framework to explore how we can optimize each of these areas in our lives.
But did I like the book? Would I recommend it to a friend? That’s tougher for me to answer.
I found it mildly exhausting to read for any stretch of time, like doing a mental HIIT workout. Maybe it’s too optimized, kinda how a ChatGPT summary of an article seems to lose the charm of the fabric of thought that the author was working with.
Bottom Line
I highlighted the hell out of the book, but I wouldn’t say it was a relaxing, enjoyable read. I can see it more as a reference guide for best practices for each of the wealth areas.
In contrast, I also read “The Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life” by Boyd Varty around the same time. It’s a fraction of the length. There are virtually no references to any studies. But I found this book to have much more heart, and the message was more impactful. I highly recommend it!
